The Buyer's Realty was started by Shelly Deshotels, a Realtor with 21 years of experience in real estate. He has been an Exclusive Buyer Broker since 1992, when the state legislature changed the laws on Agency in Louisiana. His experience is in residential, commercial and farm properties in addition to subdivision development and home restorations in New Orleans, Abbeville, Kaplan and Lafayette.
He is licensed by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission as a Real Estate Broker, and is a Certified Buyer's Agent.
He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, The Louisiana Realtors Association, The Lafayette Board of Realtors, and the Multiple Listing Service.
His past credentials include Senior Master Appraiser and Certified Environmental Site Assessor.
In the past, sellers were always represented in real estate and buyers were left to fend for themselves. In 1997, the Louisiana Legislature passed a low allowing agents to be "dual agent", representing both the buyer and seller.
Shelly never felt comfortable with dual agency just as an attorney never represents both sides in a case. In 1992, he moved his office to Lafayette and opened The Buyer's Realty, an Exclusive Buyer Representation Office. Now buyers in the Lafayette area have a choice of an exclusive buyer representative who works ONLY for the buyer.
